One of the tenets of the IIE Young Professionals group is to help create personal and professional growth opportunities including leadership development and network building. In addition, we support the transition to the professional community by integrating with the industrial and systems engineering society. One of the ways our organization does this is through our YP Regional Chairs attending regional conferences. Our Great Lakes representative sends these positive words about the Great Lakes Regional IIE conference. Here is what he saw and had to say about the event.
“I loved attending the IIE Great Lakes regional conferences as a student at Ohio University, but I may have enjoyed attending this year’s conference, hosted by Wayne State University, even more as an alumni and regional representative for IIE Young Professionals (YP). As the YP region rep, I was able to meet students from all universities represented at the conference as well as have lengthy one-on-one discussions with students at the career fair that Wayne State hosted. Many students I had the privilege of speaking with were in the midst of their job search and are graduating this spring; others were just starting graduate school; and even others were juniors, sophomores, and freshmen in their undergraduate programs who were just getting to experience an IIE regional conference for the first time. From the morning break-out sessions to the card sorting competition (won by fellow OU students!), there were plenty of activities for students and alumni alike. Top it off with the beautiful scenery in the heart of downtown Detroit and this was truly a regional conference to remember; now Ohio University has to match the effort next year! Thanks again to Wayne State IIE for their time and efforts and for hosting a great conference.”
