Local IIE Chapter Helps Non-profit Provide Hope for More Families

Industrial Engineering enables you to make systems and processes better. The Central Florida chapter of IIE, has helped support master planning initiatives at a local nonprofit organization, Give Kids The World (GKTW). GKTW is a 70-acre “storybook” resort where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families are treated to a weeklong, cost-free fantasy vacation. GKTW has welcomed more than 138,000 families from over 75 countries and all 50 states to experience a truly memorable and magical experience both at the village and the surrounding world-famous Orlando area theme parks. IIE has helped plan for village expansions, analyze housekeeping procedures, provide recommendations on building layouts, and assist in reducing the need for offsite storage. In the coming months IIE will help analyze guest flow in their new cafeteria, optimize their warehouse process to fulfill online gift shop orders, and assist in the planning for future capacity growth. The breadth and depth of IE skills is transferrable in so many ways and it’s great to use them in enhancing the community around us. The efforts of IIE will correlate to GKTW being able to welcome more families to the place where happiness inspires hope.
