2015 Outstanding Early Career in Business/Industry Award: Carl Kirpes

The Outstanding Early Career in Business and Industry Award recognizes individuals in business and industry who have made significant engineering contributions in the application, design, research or development of IE methods. The award recognizes individuals who have shown outstanding characteristics in leadership, professionalism and potential in the field. The 2015 recipient of this award was Carl Kirpes.

Carl is the Vice President of Operations at GENESYS Systems Integrator, an engineering-design build company based out of Kansas City, MO. Carl graduated from Iowa State University with honors and bachelor’s degrees in both mechanical engineering and industrial and manufacturing systems engineering. He also holds a masters in systems engineering from Iowa State. He has been recognized as a Tau Beta Pi Laureate, a Marshall Scholarship Finalist, and Mortar Board Fellow. He has led honor societies to national recognition, been a member of Iowa State’s Varsity Football Team, and written a novel incorporating his concepts of Reflective Leadership.

As Vice-President Carl has led GENESYS through an insightful and motivating company transformation which he helped envision, plan, and implement. The way that he helps lead the organization has profoundly influenced the initiative of other employees and the cohesiveness of the GENESYS team. GENESYS has become a thriving organization under his excellent leadership. He helped the company achieve local and global recognition as one of Kansas City’s Best Places to Work and in getting recognition for being named the Global Insulation Supplier of the Year. In addition to business excellence, Carl is also a member of IIE’s – Industry Advisory Board (IAB). and the IAB Awards Committee. Since being on the Awards Committee he has gotten directly involved in the promotion of Industry-focused Awards with this Committee, including writing up several suggestions for new Awards or revisions to IIE’s Awards process. Working with the Industry Advisory Board Leadership – he has taken some of his Industry-focused Award suggestions to the President of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, for consideration by the Board of Trustees and their national Awards Committee.
